CHILDREN will be able to journey under the sea, head to the plains of Africa, shrink to be the size of a toy and lose themselves in the magic of movies over the next seven weeks.
Cascades Shopping Centre in Portsmouth will be hosting its free pop-up cinema once again.
Following on from the success of the previous stint, the cinema will be in the centre for another seven weeks in the unit opposite Starbucks, giving the people of Portsmouth the chance to enjoy free films with a whole host of family favourites – including The Lion King, Toy Story and The Little Mermaid – all set to grace the screen, alongside new films such as Trolls and Sing.
‘We can’t wait for tomorrow,’ said centre director Rhoda Joseph. ‘The feedback from shoppers has been fantastic so we had to make sure that we brought the pop-up cinema back to the centre.
“It’s always great to see families coming to Cascades on a Saturday and Sunday to enjoy free films and spend quality time together when it’s here.’
The films will be showing at 11am and 2.30pm every Saturday and Sunday until June 18. Autism-friendly screenings will also be returning each Sunday at 11am, something Rhoda said she was proud to continue.
‘The sound will be quieter and the lights left on a low setting along with reduced capacity and a special chill-out area, all to make those with sensory sensitivity and autism feel more comfortable and truly enjoy the big-screen experience with family,’ said Rhoda.
‘After our first pop-up cinema, we had some touching comments from parents of children with autism and sensory sensitivity and it was important for everyone at Cascades that we continue those screenings.
‘It allows entire families to have a trip to the movies and that’s something I’m proud that we as a shopping centre are able to be a part of.’
The cinema will open at 11am tomorrow and then every Saturday and Sunday until June 18. Screenings are at 11am and 2.30pm and all 11am Sunday showings are autism-friendly.
