HAMPSHIRE Cultural Trust has been awarded money to start a three-year project.

The trust is set to receive £885,500 from the Arts Council England’s Museum Resilience Fund to develop its Kick-Start programme.

Janet Owen, chief executive officer of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to receive this all-important funding and develop our Kick Start project, bringing world-class culture to our county and working collaboratively with leading organisations.’

The aim of the project is to create a thriving cultural economy in Hampshire without the dependence on public funding.

As a part of the plan the trust will be piloting commercial innovation, connecting museums with creative practitioners, higher education institutions and businesses from across Hampshire.

The injection of cash also means that it can continue working with other venues to build on its national and international profile.

Phil Gibby, area director South West of Arts Council England, said: ‘By making a significant investment of £885,500 through our Museums Resilience Fund we are showing our confidence in the trust and acknowledging its future contribution to achieving our goal of great art and culture for everyone.’

It is expected that the funding will also support the extension of the trust’s staff training programme and build upon its inspiring and energetic work environment.

This will ensure that the trust has the ability to attract and retain a high calibre team of staff and volunteers who will develop their expertise with full support.

Mr Gibby said: ‘The programme of work they are proposing is highly ambitious and will go a long way towards to securing the future of the museums in the county.’

The trust supports a number of museums in the area including Westbury Manor Museum and Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham and The Gallery at Gosport Discovery Centre.
