Further boost for Macmillan

Have your say

The team from Fine and Country estate agents at Drayton and Emsworth is gearing up to give a further boost to its chosen charity.

Last year more than £1,500 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support, including £250 which was raised from an impromptu raffle during a Christmas reception.

Next week the team will take part in the Macmillan Big Coffee Morning on Friday, September 25.

It’s a cause dear to the heart of team member Sarah Banks.

She is a property consultant at the recently opened Emsworth office but who is also well known to regular customers at the Drayton office, where she worked before taking maternity leave.

Macmillan was chosen for support after Sarah’s father, Robin Mitchell, well-known in the Portsmouth area as chauffeur to the lord mayor for 10 years, died in January 2013 after receiving tremendous support from Macmillan.

He had previously enjoyed a long career in the Royal Navy, including serving in the royal yacht for a decade.

‘Sarah is an important part of the team and we all felt for her when Robin was taken ill and wanted to do something to support a cause that was so important to her family at a distressing time,’ said Fine and Country director Colin Shairp.

‘We make a donation for every property we are instructed to sell, whether or not that progresses to a successful sale.

‘With a strong presence in the southern Hampshire and West Sussex property market we are raising a significant contribution to the charity’s funds and the coffee morning will be a further boost.

‘Our first cheque, for more than £600, funded the running of the Macmillan advisory and support centre at Queen Alexandra Hospital for a day – with a bit more to finance part of the next day, too.

‘Macmillan’s most successful slogan is No-one Should Face Cancer Alone and the experience of Sarah’s family shows how true this is.

‘We have continued gathering funds since the first cheque and are determined to make the coffee morning a success.

‘Doors open at 10am on the day and we hope we can gather as many generous supporters as possible.’
