THE Jolly Roger in Gosport is experiencing a new lease of life after an investment of more than £240,000.

Owned by Punch and run by Hayley Hood, the pub has been relaunched after an interior redesign aimed at creating a modern environment, while maintaining the venue’s assets.

The pub also has new signage and its outside area has been enhanced for customers, who can enjoy views of Portsmouth harbour from the comfort of its patio.

New publican Hayley, who has a background in events planning and coordinating, has ‘big plans’ for the year ahead, with a host of regular events planned – including live music, weekly quiz nights and meat raffles.

She will also stage a number of charity fundraisers.

‘The pub needed some TLC and that’s exactly what Punch have given it, the refurbishment has really done the pub proud,’ she said.

‘Working with Punch, I believe we have created a fantastic environment and I am very much looking forward to putting the Jolly Roger back at the very heart of the community it serves.’

Reopened on Saturday, the pub is in Priory Road.

Punch development manager, Ian Pearson, said investment was a delight and its future looks bright in the hands of its new boss.

He said: ‘Hayley has some great plans to deliver a fantastic customer experience with her team and I am looking forward to working with her to ensure the pub goes from strength to strength.’

The Jolly Roger is open from 11am until 11.30pm from Monday to Saturday, and closes at 11pm on Sundays.
