Fareham MP Suella Fernandes has thanked all those who attended her apprenticeship fair, along with the organisations who gave it their support.

The fair was held at Fareham College last week from 10am to 3pm, with local employers including Fareham Leisure Centre, engineering firm ParCar Ltd and logistics specialist Babcock International, along with recruitment companies Berry Recruitment and Reed.

Over 500 people attended during the course of the day.

Ms Fernandes said: ‘I’m really pleased to have had so many people attending my first apprenticeships fair and to have had the support of so many excellent organisations and businesses.

‘Apprenticeships are a great way for people to obtain new skills and find rewarding work in a variety of different professions.

‘There are lots of opportunities out there, and it was great to be able to help bring together those interested in pursuing a new career with the employers and training providers who match their interest.

‘I’d like to thank Fareham College for hosting the event, and the companies who sponsored us, including ParCar and Nats, as well as all the people who visited during the day. The event was a great success, and I hope to be able to repeat it in future years.’

Government figures recently showed the number of people starting apprenticeships in the Fareham constituency more than doubled from 420 a year in 2009/10 to 880 in 2014/15.

Nigel Duncan, principal of Fareham College, said: ‘As a major provider of apprenticeships in the Solent region, Fareham College was delighted to host the fair and it proved to be an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of this form of training.

‘Over 550 visitors attended throughout the day, including pupils from local schools interested in post-16 options, and residents from the local area who are thinking about a new career and keen to take the opportunity to meet with local employers.’
