Leader backs greater devolution of powers

Have your say

THE leader of Portsmouth City Council has backed the government’s plans to give cities greater powers – and says there is a critical need to get control of housing numbers.

George Osborne wants to give regions more say over housing, transport, planning and policing as part of a Cities Devolution Bill to be announced in the Queen’s Speech later this month.

Cllr Donna Jones said: ‘It’s certainly something in Portsmouth we need to be looking at and considering.

‘It’s an opportunity for Portsmouth to have more control and say over money spent on roads, housing, and housing numbers in particular.’
