A LINGERIE company that champions designs for bigger women and shapelier figures is once again on the hunt to find its ‘Star in a Bra’

The return of the competition, run by lingerie brand Curvy Kate, gives women the opportunity to become the face of the plus-sized brand.

Charlotte Joines, from Stamshaw, won one of the company’s competitions in 2014.

She won the Model Mates contest with her friends Rufaro Nyakatawa, Camilla Anderson and Ellesha Newton.

Charlotte, a curvy size 12, has gone on to do numerous modelling projects and she encouraged people to have confidence in their figures.

She said: ‘I was inspired to do it just because I didn’t have to restrict myself.

‘I tried being a model in the past, and was told I was too fat. I simply couldn’t get any thinner than a size 8 due to my shape.

‘It made me really quite depressed, but now I can live healthily and still treat myself.’

Mrs Joines now does modelling part-time, with most of her energy concentrated on being mum to three children.

The 34-year-old said: ‘Just because I’m a plus-size model doesn’t mean I don’t have to do anything to stay in shape.

‘I still go to the gym, eat healthily, go jogging and the like, but there isn’t the same intense pressure that’s on some other models.’

She encouraged people in Portsmouth to take the opportunity. She said: ‘The advice I’d give to anyone interested in becoming a plus-size model is to just be confident; love yourself and love your shape, but also love your flaws, because there are many people around who will try and point them out to you.’

Curvy Kate’s marketing manager, Hannah Isichei, said: ‘As a brand we have never worked with professional models and over the years have built up an army of body-loving, public ambassadors – ready to shake up the notion of the “norm”.’

Curvy Kate will be holding live auditions until August 2, before successful entrants go head-to-head in a public vote. The winner will be announced on August 25.
