Grant, who started his career at the Portsmouth branch, said: '˜It was a tough decision to close Gosport as we had been there for more than 30 years but things have changed. To bring that restaurant up to this standard '“ what customers require these days '“ would not have been viable.

'˜From our customers' perspective we have brought a new modern restaurant, with more seating, an outside play area, a lift and self-service kiosks, plus a drive-thru to Gosport.

'˜Everybody who worked at the old store has transferred to here or other stores and we have actually recruited a further 60 people.'

Rich Price, from Alver, is the business manager for the store. He has transferred from the Gosport High Street store.

The 41-year-old said: '˜It is fantastic. The store looks incredible. So far all the reaction has been positive and we have noticed a lot of our old regulars from the old store coming in too.'

Another member of staff to transfer over is shift manager Charlene Stirton.

Charlene, 37, from Elson, said: '˜It has been very exciting. Everything is new and everyone is happy to be here. All the customers have been happy with the changes. The new operation makes it a lot better for us to work and a lot better for customers as it means we are quicker.'

Grant now employs 2,100 staff across 21 restaurants.
