FIGURES showing Fareham has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the south coast area have been welcomed by its MP, Suella Fernandes.
Unemployment in Fareham is among the lowest in the country, new figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown. The figures also show an overall fall in unemployment nationwide, with the number of people in work at a new high.
The statistics rank Fareham 600th out of the 650 parliamentary constituencies in the UK for the rate of unemployment, and the lowest of 10 local constituencies along the central south coast.
Miss Fernandes said: ‘These figures are excellent news for Fareham, which is doing even better than other areas locally in reducing unemployment.
‘We now have record numbers of people in jobs, which is a tribute to the many excellent businesses we have here, which are helping to boost the local economy and spread prosperity.
‘It’s also good news that wages are rising, which with inflation remaining flat means individual households are better off in real terms. It shows how important it is to keep supporting our growing economy, and helping people to achieve the security they want for themselves and their families.’
The figures show Fareham to be ranked 600th for its unemployment rate, Chichester was 515, Gosport 481, Portsmouth North 421, Havant 321, and Portsmouth South was 301.
