ALL sailings with a new ferry company have been cancelled – leaving scores of people in the lurch.

In an online announcement titled RED ALERT Scoot Ferries announced sailings from Yarmouth to Lymington and Cowes to Portsmouth have been cancelled until further notice.

It said the cancellations were due to ‘unfestive news’ but offered no more information. The firm, which only started running earlier this year, said: ‘We know how much this will affect everyone booked to scoot with us today and we’re really really sorry for messing up your plans so royally.

We’ll be posting an update later as soon as we have further news.’

‘It has offered no further information.’

Furious customers say they were left high and dry, waiting on the pontoon at Cowes and still not being told the ferries were not running.

Commenting on Twitter Ollie Phillips, from Lymington, said: ‘My wife’s birthday surprise is ruined this evening. Please refund my money immediately.’

And Matt Green, commenting on Facebook, said: ‘Stuck waiting in Portsmouth with absolutely no info until a kind member of the public directed me to this update. Why no info at the waiting area for all the stranded passengers? Unacceptable really. How do we get refunds for the cancelled trips?’

And Cai Harding said: ‘We are stuck in Cowes. We came over on the 10am. It’s bad news. We bumped into the Skipper and Crew after this news came out and they are devastated.

‘To us it means some inconvenience and a bit of extra cost - to them it’s unemployment at Christmas. My thoughts are for those guys! Let’s not forget that.’

The News contacted Scoot Ferries but has not received a response.
