POMPEY stars have showed their support for the America’s Cup racing coming to the city.
Players including defender Josh Passley gathered at the club’s training ground to promote the ‘golden ticket’ scheme.
That gives ticket holders the chance to win VIP treatment on race day.
Defender Paul Robinson said: ‘It’s good for the area and it’s good for the community so for Portsmouth Football Club anything that helps the community and the area is great to be a part of.’
Pompey boss Andy Awford added: ‘It’s fantastic a global sporting event of this size is coming to Portsmouth and as a club we are delighted to be working with the organisers to help make it a huge success.
‘The players and coaching staff are all looking forward to getting down to the event in July and supporting Ben Ainslie Racing.’

Dan Wilkinson, communications director at Ben Ainslie Racing said the Golden Ticket competition was a great way for people to be in with a chance of an upgrade.
‘We’re really keen to encourage as many local residents to come along to the event as possible and as part of that we’ve launched the promotion,’ he said.
Pompey spokesman Colin Farmery added: ‘As a football club we feel it’s very important that we support such a prestigious event that’s coming to Portsmouth and we look forward to working with the America’s Cup team over the coming weeks and months.’
Any ticket purchases that are retweeted using the hashtag #goldenticketACWSUK on Twitter or shared on Facebook will be entered into a monthly competition to win prizes and ticket upgrades.
Prizes will include going out on the water, getting closer to the boats, meeting the sailors, and visits to Ben Ainslie Racing’s base in Old Portsmouth.
Team Ben Ainslie Racing will be competing on home waters for the first time this summer as Portsmouth holds preliminary events for the 2017 America’s Cup race, from July 23 to July 26.
The event is already proving popular, with 50,000 tickets being sold in three days.
