Portsmouth beats Southampton in survey of best places to live

Portsmouth has finished well ahead of its traditional rival Southampton in a survey of the best places to live.

Researchers placed Portsmouth 65th in the national table, with Southampton coming 99th.

Crime rates, affordable living costs, salary levels and broadband access were among the criteria judged in the uSwitch Best Places to Live in The UK Quality of Life Index, which assessed more than 130 UK cities for 26 different lifestyle factors, also including working hours, life expectancy, hours of sunshine, household bills and disposable income.

Edinburgh came top of the list and Bradford was bottom.
