ORGANISERS of the Portsmouth Beer Festival are gearing up for its return.

The summer version of the popular event heads back to Portsmouth Guildhall from May 15 to 16.

And beer lovers are in for a treat as more than 100 cask ales as well as a selection of bottled beers from across the globe will be on offer.

Beers have been sourced from local breweries as well as ones further afield.

There will be live music from acts including The Bog Rolling Stones, The Southsea Alternative Choir and The Elasticated Waist Band.

There’s a hog roast and a barbecue with gourmet burgers for hungry visitors too.

Festival co-organiser Ben Mills said: ‘Last May was a great success and people really enjoy having the beer festival back on the event calendar.

‘We have got lots of events going on this summer, it’s great for Portsmouth to have so much going on. It’s a real action-packed summer.’

Ben added: ‘It’s held in a cracking venue with a lot of history and there will be an excellent selection of beer and ciders and a great line-up of music. These three things together make it great.

‘There’s always a great atmosphere.’

The event kicks off on the Friday with an evening session from 6pm to 11pm, followed by two sessions the next day from midday to 5pm and 6pm to 11pm.

Tickets cost £10 per session and can be bought from; Little Johnny Russells, in Albert Road, Southsea, The Belle Isle in Osborne Road, Southsea, Meat and Barrel, in Palmerston Road, Southsea or The Leopold Tavern, in Albert Road, Southsea.

Alternatively, buy them from Portsmouth Guildhall.
