A POPULAR park-and-sail service is returning for the rest of the summer.

Shoppers using the scheme get a bus from the Tipner park-and-ride to the ferry port before going on a boat to Gunwharf Quays.

The service will run every Saturday and Sunday from August 8 and then, for the first time, will run every day from August 22 right through to the end of the month.

Portsmouth City Council, running the scheme with Portsmouth International Port and Gunwharf Quays, says it will give more people the opportunity to take advantage of the service. As well as taking people to Gunwharf, the 25-minute boat trip includes a tour of the harbour with commentary.

It costs £10 per vehicle, which includes parking and sailing to Gunwharf Quays.

Visitors can use their ticket to travel on the park-and-ride bus from The Hard to Southsea seafront. Return is either by bus or back on the boat.

Last year more than 4,700 passengers made the 25-minute voyage.

Tory traffic boss Ken Ellcome said: ‘We hope many more people enjoy this unique and scenic way of travelling to Gunwharf Quays this year.’
