A former Royal Navy submarine Rear-Admiral is offering his experience and expertise to the board of trustees of Portsmouth-based charity Southern Focus Trust.
Richard Heaslip, along with his new colleagues, will hold overall responsibility for achieving the strategic objectives of the organisation, Portsmouth’s largest charity.
The retired submariner said he was enthusiastic about the role.
‘At this time of my life, I am keen to keep active and lend my experience and knowledge to those who need it.
‘I am delighted to become a trustee of Southern Focus Trust and am very keen to advise on the forward strategy and help promote the excellent work they do.’
Rear-Adm Heaslip said the charity was one close to his heart.
‘My granddaughter has severe learning disabilities and I am eager to help and support those who are in a similar position.’
Since his retirement from the Royal Navy, he has been involved in a number of causes including holding the positions of director-general of the English Speaking Union, president of the London Submariners’ Association and chairman of the Combined Services Football Association.
