MORE than 100 shoppers queued outside the new Aldi store in Gosport as it opened.
The new shop, on Mumby Road, officially opened at 8am yesterday and people queued outside from 7.30am eager to be the first ones in.
It is the first Aldi to open in the town with the nearest one in Fareham town centre.
For Gosport residents, the new store is a welcome sight.

‘The nearest one is Fareham so to have one in the middle of Gosport is welcoming.’
For Rosemary Winter, 68, it is good to have an Aldi on the Gosport peninsula.
She said: ‘The new store looks very promising.
‘The Aldi in Fareham was just a tad too far so it is good that we have one down the road now.
‘It is good for the competition too and it gives more choice and range as a shopper.’
Aldi was also celebrating a landmark as the Gosport shop is the 100th to open in its south west region.
Store manager Mark Dunnington said: ‘The team was pleased to see so many customers welcoming our new store to Gosport yesterday morning.
‘We would like to thank them for their support.
‘Aldi is proud to recruit staff from the local area around its stores and we look forward to working with people from the region who have passion for retail and the drive to succeed.’
Thirty jobs have been created at the new store with more staff being recruited at the moment.
The site, which has been under development for three months, has 83 car park spaces and 1,500 lines of products.
Aldi will be open from 8am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
