Solar panels being fitted on Portsmouth council offices in bid to generate thousands of pounds

SOLAR panels are being fitted to Portsmouth’s civic offices in a move that will generate £671,000 over the next 25 years.

Around 400 panels are being put on the building’s unshaded flat roof and will be angled to absorb as much sunlight as possible. The project will reduce energy consumption, whilst providing income for the authority.

It will generate around 90,000 units of clean electricity a year - enough to make 3.6m cups of tea. And the council will make £13,500 a year, equivalent to £671,000 over the next 25 years when taking into account inflation.
