We need a vibrant seafront full of activities.
That’s the message the public have given Portsmouth City Council.
I’m delighted so many residents, businesses and visitors took the time to give us their views, it shows how many people care about our seafront.Tory culture, leisure and sport boss Linda Symes
More than 1,000 people completed a survey asking for views on the seafront and how it can be improved – and the council now plans to act on those responses.
An overwhelming 79 per cent said more special events are needed, with 75 per cent say they would be happy to pay a small charge to attend them.
A total of 69 per cent asked for specific barbecue zones with better facilities, with 85 per cent requesting these be complemented with specific areas where barbecues aren’t allowed so that other activities can be enjoyed.
More than half of respondents felt more restaurants or cafes would benefit the area and – 76 per cent said extra temporary or permanent bins should be used for litter.
Tory culture, leisure and sport boss Linda Symes said: ‘I’m delighted so many residents, businesses and visitors took the time to give us their views. It shows how many people care about our seafront.
‘Now we will look at how we can put in place the things people have asked for and make the seafront an even better place to enjoy.’
