Pizza shop staff paid an impromptu tribute to Portsmouth lifeboat men - with a hidden message.

After a tough day’s training at The Hard, the RNLI rescuers opted for pizza and a movie to wind down.

RNLI crewman Lyndon Gadd placed an order at the Dominos pizza shop in Fratton Road and mentioned that it was for him and his lifeboat colleagues.

Thirty minutes later the Dominos delivery driver arrived, pizza in hand with a special note written inside of ‘lifeboat heroes’.

‘It was a great touch,’ said RNLI spokesman Aaron Gent.

Lyndon later posted a picture on Twitter showing of the message in the box.

The Portsmouth lifeboat, based in Ferry Road, Eastney, has provided search and rescue cover for the eastern Solent for the past 40 years, during which time 20 awards for gallantry have been presented to the crew.

Today the station operates two inshore lifeboats.
