THE Great British Bake Off season is upon us once again and scores of people will be heading to the kitchen to experiment with cakes, biscuits and breads.

Michelle Wilding, a big fan of the television show, has discovered her own passion in the kitchen – by baking with booze.

The 32-year-old mum-of-two made cupcakes with gin and tonic for a charity raffle three months ago.

And after seeing the amazing response from people, she launched a Facebook page the next day, little realising the huge reaction she would get.

Over a weekend, the orders started to flood in – with requests for everything from Jack Daniels and Coke to Baileys.

In the following weeks, Michelle has baked hundreds of alcoholic cakes – sometimes up to 300 a week from her one kitchen oven.

Now she has launched her Boozy Bakers business at the Discover Wine shop in Denmead.

‘The cakes are fun,’ said Michelle, who has been baking since she was four.

‘It seems cruel – but it’s great they are for adults.

‘It’s quite nice to say these are for the mums and dads. It makes people smile.’

Michelle’s husband Richard has been the chief taster and they have created more than 20 flavours.

‘We have just been experimenting,’ said Michelle, who added that people would have to eat dozens of the cakes to get drunk.

Michelle has since created a Martini cocktail cupcake and has teamed up with Hambledon Vineyard to make a Hambledon Classic Cuvee cupcake.

Janine Pert, who owns Discover Wine, said: ‘Oh, my God, is all I can say. The cakes are fantastic. She really understands the science of baking.

‘I just throw in a bit of flour and eggs and it turns out like flapjack.’

This weekend Michelle plans to catch up on the BBC One show.

She laughed: ‘I’m planning on making Prosecco cup cakes with half a bottle and drinking the other half as I watch the show!’
