We won’t follow Southampton move over bin collections vows Portsmouth Tory official

THE deputy leader of Portsmouth City Council has defended criticism of the Tory administration’s decision to keep pursuing income-making schemes.

Councillor Luke Stubbs says it’s thanks to initiatives like buying property, re-structuring the lease on the Wightlink ferry base in Old Portsmouth and the Emirates Spinnaker Tower deal that means Portsmouth doesn’t have to introduce fortnightly bin collections – set to happen in Southampton.

Southampton City Council could make £800,000 by scrapping a weekly pick-up. But Cllr Stubbs says the same won’t be happening in Portsmouth any time soon.
