AN INDIAN restaurant based in Southsea has collected a highly-coveted national award for its curry.

The Akash Indian Restaurant in Albert Road received a prize of being a ‘highly commended’ restaurant at the recent English Curry Awards in Dudley.

Restaurant manager Faz Ahmed said: ‘I’m delighted that we were highly commended by the English Curry Awards – it was a great achievement for us who have worked hard to promote healthy Indian cooking.

‘We very much champion people not be afraid to ask for there food to have less oil, or olive oil to be used instead, as well as less sugar or salt.

‘We feel encouraged to work with schools, colleges and the university to further promote healthy eating.

‘Most awards you have to enter but they approached us which shows our message is getting being noticed nationally.

‘As ever we are very proud to represent Portsmouth and the great people who make up this city.’
