Workshop promotes new rope

MORE than 40 novice sailors turned out to a show to learn more about rope.Â

The sailing Rope Show event, hosted by Hayling Island Sailing Club, saw P3 British sailing team 49er Nick Robins lead a splicing workshop, along with supporting riggers AllSpars and Hayling Island Chandlery.

Attendees learned rope care techniques, as well as about Dyneema, a rope material.

David Mossman of Marlow Ropes said: '˜It was fantastic to field questions about Dyneema '” a fairly revolutionary synthetic material that has allowed sailors to move away from the use of wire rope running rigging.

'˜While this has been mostly adopted by all the pro teams, it is still a relatively new innovation in the world of grass roots sailing. The benefits are great for all types of sailors as it is a much safer, lighter and a stronger alternative.'

The show will be in Poole Yacht Club on November 21.Â
