MORE than 40 novice sailors turned out to a show to learn more about rope.
The sailing Rope Show event, hosted by Hayling Island Sailing Club, saw P3 British sailing team 49er Nick Robins lead a splicing workshop, along with supporting riggers AllSpars and Hayling Island Chandlery.
Attendees learned rope care techniques, as well as about Dyneema, a rope material.
David Mossman of Marlow Ropes said: ‘It was fantastic to field questions about Dyneema — a fairly revolutionary synthetic material that has allowed sailors to move away from the use of wire rope running rigging.
‘While this has been mostly adopted by all the pro teams, it is still a relatively new innovation in the world of grass roots sailing. The benefits are great for all types of sailors as it is a much safer, lighter and a stronger alternative.’
The show will be in Poole Yacht Club on November 21.
