A WELL-MEANING member of the public contacted the emergency services after spotting smoke at the back of a shopping precinct.

At 6pm last night a crew from Havant fire station were sent to Park Parade, in Leigh Park.

But the blaze turned out to be a small bonfire at the back of some shops, which was under control.

The crew were then sent to The Lodge, Lavender Road, Waterlooville, which turned out to be a false alarm.
