A FOOD festival which hoped to bring 20,000 visitors to Gosport has been axed.
The Cake, Bake and Food Festival organised by Eventures International Ltd, the firm behind the troubled GosFest, was going to be held next month at Walpole Park.
Unfortunately, the festival will not be held in Gosport like we hopedChloe Palmer - director of Eventures International Ltd
But Gosport Borough Council banned the event being held on council-owned land.
Chloe Palmer, director of Eventures, said a new venue had been found but it was not in Gosport.
‘Unfortunately, the festival will not be held in Gosport,’ she said.
‘We wanted Walpole Park to be the location.
‘But because of the council’s announcement, that won’t be possible.
‘The festival has been postponed until October.’
Eventures aims to announce the new location at the end of this month.
Ms Palmer said, based on previous festivals, around 20,000 visitors were expected over the four days.
She added: ‘It would have been great to bring those people to Gosport because the town has a lot to offer.
‘We have already sold a load of tickets but because the location and date has changed, we have been offering full refunds.
‘For people who had already purchased tickets we are also offering to upgrade them to VIP and give them a free ticket to next year’s event.
‘The announcement of the council has impacted the food festival more than the musical festival because it was next month.
‘They didn’t give us enough time to find somewhere new that quickly.
‘Stallholders have been affected along with businesses and of course, ticket holders.
‘I’m still disgusted that the council will not tell us their reasons behind Eventures not being able to use council land.’
The council made the announcement last Tuesday on its website.
It said that provisional booking of land at Walpole Park and land at Stokes Bay had been cancelled.
The Cake, Bake and Food Festival is held annually either in Hampshire, Newcastle and Dorset.
It invites baking enthusiasts to see demonstrations, learn new skills and try new techniques over four days. It was due to be held in Gosport from May 22 until May 25.
