Campaigners give voice for the countryside

COUNTRYSIDE charity the Campaign to Protect Rural England is holding an open meeting to update people on its work across Hampshire.

After the AGM, CPRE Hampshire’s chairwoman Dee Haas will give a presentation about what the organisation has achieved, its plans for a green belt in the south of the county and its strategic vision for Hampshire.

Dee said: ‘The difficulty we see today is that there is a lack of a strategic framework for land use across Hampshire.

Planning is undertaken by each borough or district but there is no voice for the countryside we love and it is being eroded daily.

‘Hampshire’s essentially rural character needs to be protected and enhanced.

‘CPRE Hampshire has prepared a document called the Hampshire Strategic Vision as a stimulus to debate the future of the county. It emerges from a concern that the essential qualities of the county are at risk of unplanned and unco-ordinated growth.’

The meeting will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 11am at Littleton Millennium Memorial Hall, near Winchester.
