HERE’S a challenge you can step all over.

People are being encouraged to conquer the 530 stairs of Spinnaker Tower, in Gunwharf Quays, as part of a national contest.

The race forms part of a World Federation of Great Tower series of stair runs around the world, which will culminate in a grand finale at the Danube Tower in Vienna.

Two runners – the top male and female competitor – from the Spinnaker Tower-thon will be flown to Vienna to take part, pitted against the other series’ winners.

Sarah Webb, general manager for the tower, said: ‘We’re excited to stand alongside a series of fellow towers worldwide to offer this fantastic opportunity.

‘The current record for running the stairs stands at two minutes 18 seconds, a couple of years ago, and I’m looking forward to seeing this time smashed.’

The Spinnaker Tower-thon is £25 to enter and takes place on Sunday, October 12.
