The Whale’s Tail, created by artist Richard Farrington, in Gunwharf Quays, is one of a number of iconic landmarks across the UK being painted with spots to mark Lloyds Bank and BBC Children in Need’s new schools campaign ‘The Big Spotacular’. The scheme aims to raise money for disadvantaged children.

Children from Busy Bees Nursery, in North Harbour, helped to transform the sculpture.

Lesley Hynd, nursery manager, said: ‘It was great fun coming to the Whale’s Tail and turning it Spotacular.

‘The children are very excited about developing their spotty fundraising ideas for The Big Spotacular.’

Lloyds Bank is encouraging schools to request their free fundraising kit, containing ideas, resources, and everything a school needs to go as spotty as possible.

Jonathan Rigby, director of fundraising, BBC Children in Need, added: ‘This year’s ‘Big Spotacular’ campaign is set to be sensational and we can’t wait to see Portsmouth schools sign up to get involved.’
