A ROAD had to be closed for about an hour when a car burst into flames.

Longfield Avenue in Fareham was shut in both directions between B3385 Newgate Lane and St Michael’s Grove from about 1pm yesterday.

A crew from Fareham fire station attended the scene whilst police closed the road to allow them to tackle the blaze safely.

A detour was put in place and as a result there were some short traffic queues in the area.

The car was being driven when it caught light and the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

The driver of the car was able to get out of his vehicle safely and no-one was hurt during the incident.

One lane was reopened by about 2pm and the full road soon after.
