A STRICKEN cargo ship that was stranded in the Solent was held secure despite gusts of up to 60mph.

The Hoegh Osaka has been aground in the Solent, currently tethered off Lee-on-the-Solent, since January 3 when it developed a list leaving Southampton dock.

Salvors are aboard the vessel adjusting the ballast system and hope to start pumping water from the car decks over the next 24 hours in a bid to save its cargo.

Yesterday, divers carried out an inspection of the hull. The salvage crew hope to tug her into Southampton when the weather improves.
