A CAR has hit a barrier and overturned on to its roof, causing a lane to close on the A27.

It is thought the female driver of a silver Vauxhall Corsa lost control before hitting the central embankment of the A27 where it meets with the A3(M) on the west bound carriageway.

The outer lane has been closed since 2.45pm today when the incident happened.

Three fire engines – two from Cosham and one from Havant – and the special equipment unit was called to help rescue the driver and a male passenger.

Cosham crew manager Ian Sales said: ‘We were called to an overturned vehicle on the A27 west bound.

‘We removed the driver’s side door in order to free the people.

‘They were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital to be treated for suspected spinal injuries.’

Hampshire Constabulary say the Highways Agency has closed the outer lane while the vehicle is recovered.
