A CARE home has become the first in the world to use Google street map technology inside the building.

Parker Meadows, in Fareham, now gives virtual tours to prospective residents using the mapping technology.

The Gracewell Healthcare home, in Redlands Lane, has already seen people from as far afield as Canada and America log on to take a look.

Manager Geraint Williams said: ‘This makes everyone’s lives easier because they can instantly see if we are suitable for them, even before coming to visit in person.

‘This is such an important decision that I knew we needed to do something radical that would make the whole process of choosing a care home much more intelligent.

‘Now they can go online and have a good look around to see our facility via a computer.

‘I firmly believe technology like this is the future of the social care sector as people demand more and more transparency.’

To log on to the virtual tour of Parker Meadows, Fareham go to Google street maps and search Parker Meadows.
