A TOWN that will lose its last bank later this month is set to gain a cash machine.

BT has applied for planning permission to combine an existing payphone kiosk with a new cash machine.

The proposed machine in High Street, Lee-on-the-Solent, comes as HSBC is pulling out of the town.

As reported, the bank will close later this month – despite more than 1,000 people signing a petition against the closure.

A HSBC spokesman told The News footfall was dropping at branches.

He said: ‘On occasions this has meant we have needed to close branches.’

The bank will close on November 28. A decision on the payphone is due in January.
