Changes made to Purbrook retirement homes plans following consultation

PLANS have been submitted to knock down a small industrial estate and build retirement homes.

McCarthy & Stone, which runs homes for older people, want to redevelop the land in London Road, Purbrook and build 42 self-contained apartments with 35 parking spaces.

A public consultation took place in the summer so people living nearby, and local businesses, could give their feedback.

Following the exhibition a few changes have been made to the original plans.

A more definitive landscaping design has been made, and there are changes to the vehicle entrance and to windows to add more natural light.

A spokesman for McCarthy & Stone said: ‘The public exhibition was an excellent opportunity for us to talk with the local community regarding our proposals for this site.

‘I would like to thank everybody who has been in contact and supplied us with their feedback.

‘The local knowledge we have gained from local residents and stakeholders is incredibly valuable to us and, where possible, has been taken on board to help inform our final proposals.’
