A ball was held for The Alex Wardle Foundation at Skylark Golf and Country Club, in Whiteley, and generous attendees donated £3,000.

The charity, started last year, raises awareness and cash for sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (Sads) which Alex, 23, died of last March.

The 20-year-old, from Lee-on-the-Solent, said: ‘The fundraiser was a really good night.

‘A lot of hard work went into preparing it and it all came together. It was fantastic. We wanted new people to come along, not just family and friends so we invited businesses to attend too.’

The event, which was at full capacity, had music, a raffle, a rose sale and photo booth.

Gemma added: ‘The money will go towards funding a screening event where people can get tested for any abnormalities and have the chance to be referred to a specialist.’
