KEEP your family safe this bank holiday weekend.

That is the message from the Royal Life Saving Society UK, which is issuing warnings to families who are planning to spend this weekend near water.

Di Standley, RLSS UK Chief Executive, said: ‘Being clear on water safety and steps to take to keep everyone safe in and around water could mean the difference between an enjoyable day out and a devastating family tragedy,’

She added: ‘While open water can be a source of fun and learning for families with young children, it also presents very real and often underestimated dangers if simple safety rules are ignored.’

RLSS UK has set up simple rules to keep families safe.

These include checking tidal activity when near the coast, avoid drifting in currents, swimming parallel to the shore and getting out of water as soon as you feel cold.
