TWELVE workers were treated for itchy skin during a chemical alert at an industrial estate.
Emergency services, including the fire service’s hazardous materials team, were called out to New Lane industrial estate in Havant.
A residue was found on a German lorry that was being unpacked.
A spokesman for the fire service said gas is sprayed on to vehicles across the Channel to deter illegal immigrants.
‘If anyone comes into contact with the residue it can irritate their skin,’ he said.
Paramedics were called out at about 6.30pm on Wednesday and treated people at the scene.
