Chris Packham asks Portsmouth children to save the bees

A POPULAR wildlife expert is encouraging young children in Portsmouth to help save the humble bumble bee.

Chris Packham, a nature expert and broadcaster, is currently also the presenter of Springwatch on the BBC.

Recently, he has been encouraging Year 3 children in Portsmouth to get involved with Camping in the Forest’s ‘Bella The Bee’ competition.

For this competition, children are being tasked with writing a short story about Bella The Bee’s camping adventures – while learning all about bees in class.

Chris Packham will be judging the entries.

He said: ‘Not only are bees incredibly cute, but they are also integral to our ecosystem and their numbers are sadly dwindling fast.

‘Getting kids involved in bee conservation is a great way to educate future generations on protecting these precious species and what’s more, they have great imaginations for storytelling!

‘I am very much looking forward to reading all the stories.’
