HUNDREDS of families descended upon a high street to get into the Christmas spirit.
Cast members from the Kings Theatre’s production of Aladdin helped turn on the Christmas lights at Palmerston Road, in Southsea.
Families were getting into a festive mood with mince pies and mulled wine available at a number of different stalls.
There were also fairground rides and fireworks to entertain visitors.
Lisa Gumbrill, from Southsea, saw the lights with her partner Matt Day and two-year-old daughter Anabelle Day.
She said: ‘This was the first time we have been down here for the turn-on of the Christmas lights and it was lovely.
‘It’s good that there was lots to do so we could make a whole evening out of it.’
Carrie Wilson, who went along with her daughter Holly, added: ‘We have been coming here every year since Holly was born and it’s fun. She definitely enjoys it.’
Holly, five, said: ‘I like the lights and it was fun.’
Aladdin cast members Marcus Patrick and Christopher Marlow had pictures taken with the crowd after turning the lights on.
Marcus, who grew up in Gosport, said: ‘It was great to turn the lights on and lovely to be back down here again. Everyone seemed to have a great evening and were definitely getting into a Christmas mood.’
