STAFF at a supermarket in the city are in the Christmas spirit this year.

Tesco Extra in Fratton has joined The News Comfort and Joy Christmas Camapaign in a bid to spread Christmas cheer throughout the community.

Tesco Fratton Community Champion Gemma Morrison said: ‘This is a great campaign and because our store has a huge footfall it means we can help to spread the word and raise donations.

‘Our customers are amazing and always get involved with our community projects.’

Tesco Fratton will now have a Comfort and Joy postbox in store for customers to post their Christmas cards and £5 gift cards.

Gemma said: ‘I love working for a company that puts such a lot into the community and all the charities that are being supported through The News’ campaign are well known in the area and deserve awareness.’ Gemma has worked as a Tesco Community Champion for two years and runs events and projects with charities, local groups and Tesco’s own community campaigns.

She said: ‘It is a real shame that we have to run campaigns such as these in 2017 but some people in our society need help and support.

‘Some of our colleagues have been helped by these charities so it is important for us to make sure the services can carry on supporting them and others.’

Editor of The News Mark Waldron said: ‘I would like to thank Tesco Extra in Fratton for getting involved in our campaign and I hope we can all work together to make a difference in our city and bring a little comfort and joy to people in our community.’
