A LANDMARK in Portsmouth has launched a search for the fastest stair runner to conquer its 530 stairs.

Employees at the Spinnaker Tower are looking for someone to run up its many stairs.

The race will be held on Sunday, October 12, and forms part of a World Federation of Great Tower series of stair runs around the world.

It will culminate in a grand finale at the Empire State Building in New York.

Two runners – the top male and female competitor – from the Spinnaker Tower run will be flown to New York to take part, pitted against the other series’ winners.

Sarah Webb, general manager of Spinnaker Tower, said: ‘We’re excited to stand alongside a series of fellow towers worldwide to offer this fantastic opportunity.

‘The current record for running the stairs stands at just under four minutes.’

The tower-thon is £25 to enter.
