WIND and rain severely damaged Gosport Borough Football Club’s clubhouse roof last night.

It was discovered this morning and club chairman Mark Hook says it needs help raising thousands of pounds as it is not insured.

He said: ‘The ceiling has come down behind the bar, the carpet is soaking wet, the dance floor is shot and I’ll be having a team of workers in there to try and get it ready.

‘We’ve got a do on Friday, a game on the Saturday, a New Year’s Eve do and a game on January 1.

‘So over Christmas there will be lots of people working to get the club into shape.’

But he added all planned matches will take place.

He said: ‘We have people working on it to ensure all functions and games will go ahead over the holiday period.

‘This is devastating for the club and we will need to raise thousands of pounds to repair the damage caused.

‘We have checked our insurances and believe we are not covered for this type of damage and would ask for any financial help from the community.’
