SAILORS and staff have raised more than £1,000 for charity.

A coffee morning at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, raised £1,300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Captain Steve Dainton, commanding officer at the base, said: ‘I’m always impressed by the amount of events that personnel across Collingwood do in support of charities from big national ones to small local ones.

‘Everyone is aware of the great work and support that Macmillan provides.

‘I want to thank all of you who baked cakes and spent time making these wonderful creations.’

Departments across the base took part in the morning.

Chief Petty Officer Writer Aurora Allen added: ‘I have lost a couple of close friends and I know they received support from Macmillan. We had support from everyone.’
