Come along on Saturday and join in the celebrations

We will be celebrating Her Majesty the Queen's official birthday this Saturday '“ and we'd love you to join us!

The Queen was actually 90 in April, but her official birthday is always celebrated in June. It’s a tradition that dates back to the reign of King George II.

Churches have been encouraged to throw parties to mark the event to unite their local communities and as there was so much happening nationally last weekend we decided to delay our celebrations for a week.

So we’re having an afternoon tea at St Thomas the Apostle Church, on the corner of Elson Road and Elson Lane in Gosport this Saturday, June 18, from midday to 3pm.

We’re marking the occasion not just because the Queen is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, it’s also to honour her lifelong devotion to serving the people of our nation and the Commonwealth, and to mark her personal faith in the God who inspires her.

People of all ages are welcome – there’s no lower or upper age limit. There will be sandwiches, tea and lots of cake for us to share.

If you’d like to come dressed in red, white and blue that would be great too.

There will be lots of activities for people of all ages to get involved with as well including hook-a-duck, a teddy tombola and the vicar’s chocolate stall.

There will be stalls selling bric-a-brac and books and a raffle too.

We held a coffee morning as St Matthew’s Church in Bridgemary at the beginning of the month to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and that was lots of fun.

Do come and join us in celebrating the Queen’s service to the nation this Saturday. We’d love to see you there.
