Community begins to grow for long-running housing project in West of Waterlooville

AN AMBITIOUS housing project is coming to fruition, eight years after it started.

West of Waterlooville, which is partially situated in the Havant borough, is undergoing a huge transformation, and will eventually incorporate more than 3,200 homes.

Forty per cent of the new homes on the 250-hectare site south of Denmead will be affordable housing, alongside a doctor’s surgery, nursery, two primary schools, five nature conservation sites and other amenities.

This follows eight years of community-building events including village green fetes and resident meetings.

Councillor Victoria Weston, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Built Environment, has branded the development ‘important and exciting’.

She said: ‘It is important because it helps to meet the district’s housing land supply and need for affordable housing; exciting because it will boost business and employment opportunities.’

It is expected to be completed in 2030.
