A NEW community hub is to be opened at the Hilsea Lido next month.

A kiosk on the site will officially open as a new social area for people to use as they wish.

Members of the Hilsea Lido Pool for the People hope the kiosk will be used by community groups in the area and by local people as a new meeting place.

Funds raised from use of the facility will go towards repairing the Lido in a bid to reopen it.

Helen Downing-Emms, HLPP’s vice-chairwoman, said: ‘Opening the kiosk and remarketing the Blue Lagoon will be a great start to begin developing the business that will enable us to raise enough funds to get the Lido reopened.

‘We also have some fundraising events coming up, like a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee dinner in June.’

Next week the group will prepare the site for summer by pressure washing the pool, cleaning the fountain, and planting geraniums.
