Staff from SSE and Accenture, in Havant, took part in a charity football match, raising £500 for the Medicine for Older People’s Ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham.

Nicholas Gale and Felix Umolu, from SSE, organised the game at Park Community School earlier in the summer.

The money raised will be put towards activities and games to keep patients busy and stimulated during their stay.

This is the second fundraising event they have organised for the hospital, as last year they staged a charity football event to raise funds for the children’s department.

Felix, a junior test analyst, says: ‘We have chosen to support the Medicine for Older People’s department as it is a cause that is close to a lot of people’s hearts.

‘It has been a pleasure fundraising for the department as elderly patients often get forgotten.

‘We are proud to make a difference to the hospital, and look forward to our next fundraising event.’

The funds were donated to Portsmouth Hospitals Charity, which supports all of the wards and departments within Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs QA.

Nicholas says: ‘We’re all proud to make a difference at SSE and after the success of last year’s event we wanted to do more.

‘We all have family and friends who have been treated at QA at some point or another, so it’s really important for us that we give something back.

‘We went to the hospital and asked which department gets the least donations and they said it tended to be the older people’s wards.’

He adds: ‘We were hoping to raise £400 for the hospital so to raise more and reach £500 was great.

‘As well as giving the money, we spent the day at the hospital to meet the patients and see what the cash will be used for.’

SSE won the game 7-1.
