CHILDREN will be able to go online as a new computer club received a grant of £2,100 from two councils.

Fareham Borough Council gave £700 to the Whiteley Computer Club, which is based at the Whiteley Community Centre, from its community fund.

Hampshire County Councillors Sean Woodward and Patricia Stallard agreed to top up the amount.

The money will go towards equipment to get the volunteer-led club started and will be used to buy software, monitors, eight computers, a projector and printer.

Cllr Woodward said: ‘The club is a worthy project that recognises the advantages of developing technical skills in a rapidly-evolving digital age.’

Borough ward councillor David Swanbrow said: ‘Initiatives like this, that provide an opportunity for local children to socialise and learn new skills, are a great use of the community fund.’

Any resident, or organisation based in the Fareham borough can apply to the community fund for money. call 01329 236100.
