Concern raised over gun used by soldiers and sailors

THE reliability of a firearm used by soliders and sailors in the British Army and Royal Navy has come under fire.

An MP has questioned the capability of the SA80 L85A2 – a gun which is the standard weapon used by many of the UK’s armed forces.

Tory MP Daniel Kawczynski quizzed defence procurement minister Harriett Baldwin about what ‘assessment’ had been made of the ‘adequacy’ of the firearm.

Replying, Mrs Baldwin
said: ‘The SA80 L85 A2 is a reliable, battle-proven weapon suitable for worldwide operations.’
