LONG-TIME Portsmouth resident and keen supporter of the arts Judith Smyth has become the chairwoman of the New Theatre Royal.
Ms Smyth is a management consultant and has sat on the board of the First Wessex Housing Association and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
She has lived in Portsmouth for more than 40 years.
Ms Smyth said: ‘I am very much looking forward to working with our supporters, volunteers and staff to make New Theatre Royal a major centre of excellence for arts and performance.’
Ms Smyth is taking over from Josh Brown, who has been in the role for the past five years.
He said: ‘I have known Judith for a long time and know her to be highly skilled and a very competent person. It’s comforting to know that New Theatre Royal is in safe hands.’
The theatre, currently being refurbished at a cost of £4.5m, is due to re-open in September.
